Preliminary Justification : HIV infection is a still global health problem and cryptococcus meningitis has emerged as a leading cause of infection in morbidity and mortality of HIV infected patients. Cryptococcus neoformans is a major cause of illness in people living with HIV/AIDS. Although opportunistic infections are declining after the availability of antiretroviral treatment in developing countries, cryptococcal meningitis is still burden in many patients due to late presentation. Due to the high incidence and high mortality of cryptococcal meningitis in HIV infected patients, it is important that infection must be correctly and timely diagnosed.It is expected that this study will provide early diagnosis of cryptococcal meningitis by direct microscopy and antigen detection method and identification and antifungal susceptibility pattern by culture method for proper management and treatment.
 
Preliminary Aim : to detect Cryptococcus neoformans in clinically diagnosed meningitis among HIV patients from Specialist Hospital Mingalardon and Specialist Hospital Thakayta
 
Preliminary Objectives : (1) To get early diagnosis of Cyptococcal neoformans in HIV meningitis patients by using Nigrosin Staining method and Cryptococcal Antigen by Latex Agglutination test (2) To identify Cryptococcal neoformans in HIV meningitis patients and determine antifungal susceptibility patterns by using automated yeast identification system for proper management and treatment.

Preliminary Study Method : Detection of cryptococcus neoformans by Nigrosin staining preparation, Antigen detection by latex agglutination test and identification and antifungal susceptibility pattern by culture method
 
Preliminary Research Outcome : By knowing the results rapidly and give prompt treatment according to antifungal susceptibility testing, Clinician can reduce the mortality rate of HIV infected patients due to cryptococcal meningitis.
 
Preliminary Research Finding : In 2018, cryptococcal antigen was positive in 20.3% and 16.3% by cultural method from Specialist Hospital Mingalardon and Speciaist Hospital Waibargi
