Preliminary Justification : The anthropometry is technically simple, inexpensive and readily available for evaluating and monitoring. Malocclusion may be predicted by measuring head circumference as a representative of the cranial base that estimates the prevalence of crowding to reduce the radiational hazard and to provide a simple three-dimensional measurement of cranio-facial morphology. It can also be used as an adjunct to cephalometric analysis. Many investigations have concentrated in the area of dental crowding in relation to tooth size and various arch dimensions. Children with low anthropometric measures have association with different types of malocclusion. This study is necessary because if there is any association between head circumference and arch dimensions, pediatric dentists can enable to plan better for the interventive treatment of malocclusion and can achieve more pleasing results. Even general dental practitioners can be easily assessable and monitoring the growth of cranio-facial complex and the prevalence of crowding by measuring some anthropometric measures and arch dimensions. This study emphasizes the association of head circumference and maxillary arch dimensions related to crowding which seems to be useful in predicting the likelihood of malocclusion in children for early prevention and intervention of interceptive orthodontics.
 
Preliminary Aim : To study the association of head circumference and maxillary arch dimensions with crowding in young permanent dentition
 
Preliminary Objectives : 1.To determine the head circumference of children by flexible, non-stretchable tape 2. To determine the maxillary arch dimensions (arch perimeter, arch length and arch width) of children on working casts 3. To compare the head circumference and maxillary arch dimensions between crowded and non-crowded groups 4. To determine the association of head circumference and maxillary arch dimensions in crowded group and non-crowded group
 
Preliminary Sample Size : sample size required for each group is 34 (Total=68) Total: 68 Crowded group : 34 Non-crowded group: 34 Subjects within 11-14 years of age attending at Department of Paediatric Dentistry, University of Dental Medicine, Mandalay will be selected according to selection criteria. Among the selected subjects, the subjects will be chosen by using convenient sampling method until the required sample size is fulfilled.
