Preliminary Justification : Advanced age is commonly associated with cognitive decline and structural and functional brain changes. β-amyloid deposition is also associated with cognitive changes in many older people. To date, ELISA measurement of β-amyloid(1–42), total tau and phospho-tau-181 in cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) is the most advanced and accepted method to diagnose probable AD with high specificity and sensitivity(Humpel,2011). However, the routine diagnosis of AD and mixed forms of dementia from CSF has several drawbacks: lumbar puncture and collection of CSF is an invasive treatment with potential side effects, and screening of patients is often difficult and follow-up analysis of the same patient over several years is problematic(Fagan,2014). Thus, there Although different platforms were used to assay CSF and plasma samples, the results showed that CSF and plasma β-amyloid(1–42) levels were significantly positively correlated. However, the development of assays for bood biomarkers in measuring AD has fallen behind (Lue et al.,2017). Several factors could have hampered the development. Taken together, the major focus of this research is to investigate plasma β-amyloid levels by sensitive ELISA assay and cognitive function in elderly adults to find out the relationship between Aβ and cognition.
 
Preliminary Aim : This study aims to explore relationship between Beta Amyloid Levels and Cognitive Function among the Elderly Adults
 
Preliminary Objectives : 1. To measure beta amyloid level in the elderly adults by ELISA assay 2. To measure conginitive function in the the elderly adults by Mini Mental State Examination (MMSE) procedure 3. To find out relationship between beta amyloid levels and cognitive function among the elderly Adults
 
Preliminary Sample Size : At least 60 samples/Elderly adults both male and female admitting to Geriatric Medical Unit, Yangon General Hospital
 
Preliminary Study Duration : one year
 
Preliminary Study Area : Geriatric Medical Unit, Yangon General Hospital University of Medical Technology, Yangon
 
Preliminary Study Method : Data collection will be done by proforma and will be carried out after getting informed consent from the patients. After getting informed consent, blood sample 3 ml will be collected by clean venipuncture in potassium EDTA from patients as soon as possible after admission to Geriatric Medical Unit at Yangon General Hospital. Mini Mental State Examination (MMSE) procedure will be tested to all participitants.
